Dearest Mother and Father,

I hope you are well, as I am doing well here. Training is harder than expected, but I am making the family name proud, don't worry. The men here are good fellows, one and all, and I've made friends with some of them. We have very little time and I know you both wish to save paper for the soldiers, so I shall keep my message brief. Only could you find the time to deliver the attached poem to my dearest Katrina for me?

Three Short Prompts

a) You are a ghost, doomed to haunt existence for eternity because your lover betrayed you in a terribly dramatic way. Formulate such a betrayal, and then write a stream-of-consciousness poem which implies but does not directly state how, exactly, this occurs. Must be at least fourteen lines in iambic pentameter.

b) You pass by an alley and see a girl being raped by a man with a gun to her temple. However, he also has a ticking bomb strapped to his chest, with a timer rapidly running out. You can tell by his noises he is nowhere near done, and she has stopped struggling and is only lying there crying. Do you:

i) call the police and be on your way
ii) get in there and try and get the girl out, risking the man becoming violent
tii) try and find a way to cause the man to orgasm sooner, so you can get both the girl and yourself out of harm's way

Write a persuasive essay, at least five paragraphs, about why the two other choices are the wrong ones.

c) A doctor with a terminal disease which always ends slowly and painfully comes to you, because you both have been friends your entire life and he trusts you. He says he wants to commit assisted suicide, but not with a fellow medical practitioner. He instead wants you to perform the procedure, which he will walk you through. However, if you refuse to help, he says, he will blow his brains out with the gun he always carries in his medical bag in front of you right now. Explain what is going on in his psyche using a Venn diagram and flowcharts. Extra credit is awarded for a political cartoon using this situation and the candidates of the Election of 1860.
